Dog aggression and reactivity- Old English Sheepdog- 17 months
Переглядів 195День тому
Awesome progress with Bruce, 17 month old Old English Sheepdog. A few shorts weeks ago, his human was worried about his interactions with other dogs. This would then cause them to tighten the lead, pull him back and do other things which contributed to more reactivity. They have diligently done their homework with him and you can see the results here. I couldn't be happier. Well done team. What...
Does your dog jump up?

Does your dog jump up? Our verbal reprimands often don't have the effect we desire on our dogs behaviour. Not reinforcing unwanted behaviour doesn't mean ignoring our dog, ignoring bad behaviour or turning your back on our dog. P.S. please stop turning your back your dog when they jump, it's outdated advice. If we follow a positive ethos, we need to train alternative. #dog #dogtraining #dogtrainer

Recovering from reactivity. D'Arcy came to see me after her human was concerned about her stressed behaviour while on and off lead. She was very vocal, would tell other dogs off if they got too close to her. As you can see from the three interactions with the dogs hear, she is still not delighted about dogs being too close to her, but we are teaching this while team how to better deal with thes...

Recalls with Max, cocker spaniel. As an excellent alternative to chasing and retrieving a ball, we teach pup ro retrieve a stationary ball. Retrievers and other gun dogs don't chase the bird when hunting, they retrieve dead birds. Most of us like seeing our dogs running and chasing a ball. But is that repetitive action good for them? I don't think so. Throwing a ball over and over again can lea...

Recall away from dogs. Kylo is 7 months old, loves life and to run off and play with other dogs. He's doing amazingly well due to the diligent work of his humans. We are endeavouring to match his desire to play with the other dogs with playing games with us. See the dog, get the ball. At this stage, the ball is thrown away from the dog, in time, we'll be able to throw it in any direction. You c...

Thank you very much for this video. I’ve just adopted a flat coat retriever being transported here Saturday. The foster says he’s this breed though their website says mixed breed. He’s 4 and they say 45 lbs so seems smaller than a full breed. But the videos they’ve sent, he looks & seems to act just like one. He was boarded with a dozen other foster dogs and don’t think he’s received much training, so wish me luck! He’s coming from Texas to Oregon. 🐶❤️

1:16 My take on this is that we don’t have control over the environment in a public space. How are we supposed to train our dogs to ignore other dogs if there are no other, strange (unknown) dogs in the environment? I want to train my dog (GSD) to ignore the other dogs (and do it without aversive methods). Your videos have been helpful. I’m still afraid to take her back to public spaces, because she has been breed blamed, despite not biting back (she’s been attacked by 3 small dogs, and one dog her size who punctured her nose and ears). Thank you for your videos.

I understand that people might not like it but my responsibility is to my clients, they allow me to educate using their dogs through these videos. Dog training can be expensive and it would be ridiculous to ask someone to pay for weekly sessions so that people can satisfy themselves with free content online. I equip my clients with the tools to train their dogs, and there are tonnes of videos on this channel which show the various stages, just with different dogs. I know that it works because I've been doing it successfully for 17 years.

I used to think the cesar milan way was how it was supposed to be. I never owned a dog, just cats. I never liked dogs much, and felt they need a stern hand, or they'd be dangerous. And I thought the balanced approach made sense. All until I got our own pup. He's 21 months at this point, and there's just no way I'd use any aversives on him. To boot, the breed description says it needs a soft hand, so even if I insisted on that type of training, it wasn't the breed for us anyways. He has responded very well to positive reinforcement training. He's almost done with adolescence. Just the last shennanigans period now before he's officially adult. (He's a japanese spitz.) He has days where he's borderline perfect at this point. Days he doesn't pull, walks heel past other dogs (we made the mistake of thinking he had to greet every dog when he was young). He spent hours in the garden today with hardly a bark, despite several times running to the hedge to check out who was walking past. I'm so proud of him. I never thought I'd ever train a dog, but here we are. I'm not sure why I ever thought aversive training made any sense. He's so happy and full of life, and quite mischievous at times, but he'll be one heck of a good dog as an adult. Such good manners and a sweet nature. The only bad thing about him is him insisting on a 6 am wake up time. Like dude, 8 would be good k thanks.

I'm learning so much from your course, and it's working so fast for our new adopted shelter 8 month old with dog reactivity on leash. I'm having fun seeing him develop skills to 'triggers' and I can be essentially 'hands off!'. It would be so easy to get frustrated with this exercise if a 'balanced' method was being used (which unfortunately I once believed in). Here the human learns to remain CALM and patient/respectful to dog. The human doesn't have to enage physically or verbally to force LEARNING (i.e. applying corrections over and over and over to obtain compliance...all that crazy unhealthy BS). The dog isn't PURPOSELY ignoring the human, it's processing everything!

When I got my puppy home, in the first week, I wasn’t paying full attention for a minute, and when I looked under the sofa, he was about to bite down on a power cord. I yelled the most serious “NO!!” I ever did in my life, and he let it go and never showed interest in that again. I’ve told this story on a puppy forum as an example of one of the few times I’ve used what I felt was an aversive, and I got chewed out for it. And I always felt bad, but it was also an emergency, so I also felt I couldn’t do anything else. Obviously watching him and puppy proofing better was what I should have done, but alas I’m human. I’ve stuck to positive reinforcement to the best of my ability, but I did do this No thing. And now I feel “validated“. It wasn’t a training method, it was an emergency. It doesn’t somehow make me an ally of balanced training just cause that happened. Sometimes just having something defined for oneself really helps.

I had a similar encounter with my GSD who was 6 month old and reactive. We were at least 60m+ doing our thing and my dog was on the leash when two large malamutes came charging towards us from behind and we hadn't noticed. I shouted to the owner when the dogs were about 10 meters away and he was about 60meters away to get his dogs under control and to recall his dogs and he just told me to F off and said that's what dogs do. I said can you not see how reactive our dog is and I have asked you nicely to recall your dogs and you can't control them. I ended up having to leave the public field with my son because he refused to put his dogs on a leash. In my opinion, he was just abusive, he was being aggressive, unreasonable and ignorant to others.
